Kay Dumas

Kay Gwendolyn Dumas, 79, of Temple, TX passed from this life on Friday, May 30, 2014 at a Conroe hospital. A Graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 5 at Bellwood Memorial Park at 11am.
Gwen was born on the 5th of March 1935 in Temple, Texas to Sherwood and Ethel Dumas. Her mother, Ethel, was from Stringtown, TX her father, Sherwood S.S., from Rogers, TX.

Her father, Sherwood was a rancher and business man in the TempleBelton Area. Her mother worked at Bandy Laboratories and was a homemaker. Gwen worked as a bookkeeper for her father at his beer distributorship until his passing.

Gwen attended Reagan Elementary and graduated from Temple High School in 1953. She attended Temple Community College studying bookkeeping. In 1958, she served as the secretary in the Temple Longhorn Club.

Gwen was a homemaker for many years as she was actively involved with her daughter Cynthia Honeycutt in various clubs and organizations. The Camp Fire organization was an important part of her life she was both a Blue Bird and Camp Fire leader for many years. Camp Mitchell of Belton was a favorite with her group for camping during the summer and weekend retreats during the school year.

Known as the egg lady in the Porcelain Art Guild circles, Gwen provided blanks for china painters. She poured, cleaned and fired thousands of porcelain eggs and figurines for the china painters around Central Texas. Her most cherished treasures were the porcelain dolls she poured and prepared for her mother to paint. Gwen was delighted to search for just the right dress for each doll. The Dumas family Gwen, Ethel and Cindy hand made over 200 modern day porcelain dolls.

Her interests included family activities, doll making, and a collector of countless vintage items. Gwen always looked forward to special events and holidays as this was family time with grandkids, extended family and friends. Gwen loved to try new recipes, enjoyed participating in the kitchen as everyone prepared their special side dish. Her favorite is fruit salad with cherries added just before serving.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter Cindy and her husband Robert Conn of Montgomery Texas a granddaughter Christie Conn Romo granddaughter Kimberly and her husband Greg Castro and a greatgranddaughter Haley Romo all of Grand Prairie, Texas.

The family would like to thank Conroe Health Care for the years they cared for Ms. Dumas and tended to her needs.
