Funeral services for Katy Marjorie Duty Gillmeister, 83, of Temple will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at Covenant Lutheran Church, 4202 Hickory Rd., with Reverend Heath Abel officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Katy was born at Dime Box, Texas to the late Marcellous J. and Katy Elrod Lively Duty on March 8, 1930. She graduated in the top 10 of her class from Temple High School class of 1948 and won the Business and Professional Award. She then attended the Mary Hardin Baylor College where she met Leonard Gillmeister. They married on April 4, 1953 at the First Lutheran Church of Temple.
Mrs. Gillmeister died Sunday morning at her home in Temple.
She served as secretary to the superintendant of Temple School. She spent many years of her life at the Methodist Home in Waco where a man by the name of Mr. Joe Perkins became a large influence on her life. She loved playing the piano, being a mother, wife and grandmother who loved birds and feeding them and watching through her kitchen window. She was a homemaker and a caregiver and a lifetime donator to the Gideons Bible Association.
Survivors include her husband Leonard George Gillmeister of Temple a daughter, Paula Krause of Temple four sons, David Gillmeister of Temple, Joel Gillmeister of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Darrell Gillmeister of San Francisco, CA, Sebastian Gillmeister of New York a brother, Cecil Dusty Duty of San Diego, CA 10 grandchildren 9 great grandchildren.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Methodist Home in Waco or the charity of ones choice.
The family will receive friends from 68 pm Monday at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple.
