Julia Elizabeth Hoppock died September 19, 2007 in Temple, Texas after a short illness. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa on May 10, 1921 to Carey and Celia McClelland. After graduation from Roosevelt High School, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, where she was an award winning interior design major. To do her part in the war effort, she worked in the Accounting departments of war plants in Des Moines and Las Vegas. She married Lewis Mac McKean Hoppock on April 8, 1945.
In 1995, she was honored as a Plaza of Heroines inductee at Iowa State University. Julia was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church and was very active in the Altar Guild at Christ Church and St. Francis Church in Temple and the St. Lukes Church in Belton.
Julia Hoppock was an elegant and classy lady, who graciously shared her immense charm, talent, good humor and warmth to all who knew her. She was a devoted and loving wife, an inspirational and endearing mother and a cherished grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Mac, of 62 years, daughter, Carol Mcgee and husband, Bob McGee, of San Antonio, sons, Douglas Hoppock and wife, Sherry Hoppock of Longview and Bill Hoppock and wife, Becky Hoppock, of Jackson; grandchildren, Mindy Hager, Ryan McGee, Crickett Simmons, William Hoppock, Harland Hoppock and Tim Hoppock, five great grandchildren and her beloved canine companion and confidant, Bijou.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September, 22, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Belton, Father Tom Wallace, officiating.
Memorials may be made to St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Belton, Texas, the Julia Hoppock Theatre Scholarship at Northeast Texas Community College, P.O. Box 1307, Mt. Pleasant, Texas 75456 or to the charity of your choice.
