Services for Joyce Ann Cater, 85, of Temple, will be 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 4, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with Chaplain Gary Baxley officiating. Burial will be at Bellwood Cemetery.
Joyce Ann Cater died on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in her home with her family by her side.
Mrs. Cater was born on February 7, 1932 to Hunter Holton and Lonie Stirckland Holton in Columbus, Georgia. She met and married the love of her life Sam Houston Cater, Jr. She was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She retired as a receptionist from the Temple Daily Telegram. She enjoyed serving in her church. She was a member of Oak Park Methodist Church and choir along with Garden Plotters Club, and Sara Circle. She volunteered in the Mother's Day Out Program. She was a devout sports fan. She cheered for the Rangers and the Temple Wildcats.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Sam Cater Jr. of 55 years, sister, Inez Turner, a brother, Murrah Holton.
Mrs. Cater is survived by her children, Bruce Cater of Temple; Lynda Cater Rieger and her husband, Kenneth, of Cypress, TX; Kim Cater Joseph of Blue Eye, Missouri; and Joseph Cater and his wife, Natalie, of San Antonio. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Dan Glushko, Stacie Rieger, Jennifer Rieger Greenaway, Morgan Rieger, David Joseph, Jr. , Grant Joseph, Camille Cater and Celeste Cater and three great-grandchildren, Braden Greenaway, Emma Greenaway and Zachary Greenaway.
Visitation will be Monday, April 3, 2017, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple from 6:00-8:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Oak Park Methodist Church in her name.
