Joseph Ray Widner, 84 of Temple, passed away January 23, 2010 at his residence. Visitation will be 6:00pm8:00pm Tuesday at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Wednesday at Taylors Valley Baptist Church in Temple. Rev. Jeff Loudin, Rev. Mike Daily, and Rev. Michael Wingo will officiate. Burial will follow in Temple Garden of Memories in Temple.
Joseph Widner was born June 7, 1925 to Joseph and Winnie Rogers Widner in Clarksville, Texas. On May 18, 1943, he married Arlene Long in Clarksville, Texas. He proudly served our nation in the United States Navy during WWII. Mr. Widner was employed by Texas Instruments where he worked for 14 years as a Quality Technician. He was a member of Taylors Valley Baptist Church in Temple. Joseph Widner was an ordained deacon in the church. He was a song leader, and was active in the churchs Sunday School classes.
Mr. Widner was a hard working man and a wonderful provider. He loved gardening, singing, and traveling. Most of all, he loved serving the Lord.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Charles Neil Widner.
Survivors include: his wife Arlene Widner of Temple, sons Michael C. Widner and wife Trudy of Temple, and Charlie Elkins, grandchildren Joe Widner and wife Kate of New York, Rob Widner of Irving, and Josh Widner and wife Eita of Dallas, great grandchildren Ross, Chloe, Emily, and Dylan, an aunt, Agnes Arnold of Hamilton, daughterinlaw, Jan Widner, and several cousins.
