Jose Cantu

January 27, 1946 — February 17, 2022

Troy

Jose Gregorio Cantu, age 76 of Troy, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Baylor Scott & White hospital in Temple. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday, February 25, 2022, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. Burial will follow in Bellwood Cemetery.

Jose was born January 27, 1946, in Robstown, Texas to Manuel Cantu and Magdelina (Martinez) Cantu. He worked for Bell County Road & Bridge until he retired. Jose loved his wife of 56 years and all his children and grandchildren unconditionally. He worked hard and always provided for his family. Jose was a true servant of God. His love for God was reflected by the life he lived. When you met Jose, you met a person who cared enough about you to introduce you to Jesus. He would say that you have to tell people about Jesus when you meet them because you may never see them again. If you already had Jesus in your heart, then he would give you Godly counsel. He would remind you how awesome God is. Jose took his ministry of evangelism seriously. He traveled in the state of Texas from the panhandle to south Texas, and from the east to the west and spread the seed of salvation. He enjoyed having tent revivals because he said the message of Jesus can travel through the air and reach everyone. Jose loved to sing. His praise and worship were all dedicated to Jesus. His assignment from God is fulfilled. As he would always say "God bless you and have a blessed day."

Jose was preceded in death by his brothers, Jessie Cantu, and Manuel Cantu Jr.; sister, Anita Maldonado; and daughter, Antonia Marie Cantu.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Antonia Tena Cantu; brothers, Antonio Cantu, and Guadalupe Cantu; sisters, Janie Gordon, Celia Cantu, Terri Barrientez, Eva Trevino, Nora Cantu, and Gracie Cantu; sons, Jose Gregorio Cantu Jr., and Jacob Santos Cantu; daughter, Linda Rose Martinez; grandchildren, Salomon Cantu, Paul Cantu, April Cantu, Naomi Pineda, John Pineda, Julia Martinez, Diego Martinez, Adrian Cantu, and Alexander Cantu; and 6 great grandchildren.
