John Kurecka

Services for John Kurecka, 74, of Moulton and formerly of Southlake, will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 6, at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger with Father Tom Frank officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Granger.

Mr. Kurecka passed away Wednesday, June 28, at a hospital in Victoria surrounded by his loved ones.

John Kurecka was born July 22, 1942 in Gary, Indiana to Mary and Joseph Kurecka. He graduated from Belton High School and joined the United States Marine Corps in February of 1962. He served with Heavy Artillery in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. After leaving military service, he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and could fix anything that was broken. John was of the Catholic faith and lived a life of faith, valuing honesty, hard work, and service to others.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Joseph Kurecka; his twin brother, Joseph Kurecka; brothers Eugene Joe Kurecka and Edward Lee Kurecka; and sister Arlene Frances Heller.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marie Kurecka; daughters, Tammy Kurecka and Lynna Kurecka of Weatherford; son, Eric Kurecka of Austwell; and a very special grandson, Christopher (Keshia) Javarone of Ft. Worth, with whom he shares the same birthday; brother, Larry Kurecka (Barbara) of Temple; several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly; and a special Aunt Josey Strimiska.

Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 5 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. Recitation of Rosary will be at 7 p.m.
