Joe Lerma Martinez

Joe L. Martinez, 62, of Temple died Oct 4, 2008 in a Houston hospital. Visitation will be Thursday, 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary at 7 p.m. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Chamberlain officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with military honors.

Mr. Martinez was born September 28, 1946 to Mike and Amparo Lerma Martinez in Temple, Texas. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Julia Hall in June 2003. He was an avid golfer and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Mr. Martinez is preceded in death by his father and a brother, Manuel Martinez.

He is survived by his wife; mother, Amparo Lerma : children, Joel Martinez of Lake Tahoe, CA, Desiree Martinez of Fresno, CA, April Black of Minden, NV and Christina Martinez of Dayton, NV ; brother, Jesus Jimenez, Jr. of Temple; sisters, Irene Reyes, Suzanne Strege, Sandra Jimenez, and Cynthia Carr of Temple, Guadalupe Martinez and Jessica Booth of Southern California; 8 grandchildren.

Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple is in charge of arrangements.
