Services for Joe Avila, 69, of Temple, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, November 30, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Temple with Father Tom Chamberlain officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mr. Avila died Wednesday, November 22, at a local hospital.
Joe Perez Avila was born December 28, 1947 in Williamson County to Ines Martinez Avila and Natalia Perez Avila. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Viet Nam 1966 - 1968. Joe was a beloved husband, father, and brother. He enjoyed playing cards and bingo, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and listening to Tejano music. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Mr. Avila was preceded in death by his parents, Ines and Natalia Avila.
He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Sylvia R. Avila; a son, Michael J. Kitchens and wife Elsie; a daughter, Carolina Kitchens; Brothers George Avila and wife Angie, Jerry Avila and wife Maria, and Ines Avila, Jr.; sisters Irene Barrientos and husband Julio, and Alice Ramirez and husband Victor; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 29 at the funeral home. Recitation of Rosary will be at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of the VA Hospital for their compassionate care, and to family and friends for their prayers.
