Joanne Thigpen

Joanne Marie (Guseman) Thigpen, age 89 of Temple, Texas, and loving mother of five children, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Canyon Creek Memory Care in Temple. Funeral services will be held for Joanne and her daughter, Susan Holasek at 11 am Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery in Houston at 3 pm Thursday, February 17, 2022.

Joanne was born on October 31, 1932, in Beaumont, Texas to Joseph and Lucille Guseman. She grew up in Beaumont, Texas and graduated from Lamar High School in 1948. On October 4, 1952, she married James Lloyd Thigpen at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. They raised five children: Jim, Steve, Mike, Rick, and Susan. Joanne and Jim lived in the Houston and Harlingen areas where she worked as a Paralegal. After she retired, she helped her husband run their feed and hardware store in Cleveland, Texas. Later they moved to a ranch near Temple, Texas where they raised cattle for many years. Through the years their home was the site of many family gatherings and celebrations.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Thigpen; her father, Joseph Guseman; and her mother, Lucille Guseman.

She is survived by her son, Jim and his spouse, Karen; her son Steve and his spouse, Marcia; her son, Mike and his spouse, Kimberly; her son, Rick and his spouse, Julie; her sister, Diane Hill; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held from 10 – 11 am, prior to the service Tuesday, at the funeral home.
