Jo Van Hovel, 81 of Temple, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the Meridian Nursing home in Temple, Texas. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 3 pm at the Holland Cemetery in Holland, Texas.
Jo was born on September 7, 1939 in Bell County, Texas to Joe Lee and Vivian Inez Wilson. She graduated from high school in Holland, Texas. Jo attended Fergus Falls Community College in Fergus Falls, MN where she majored in Real Estate. She married Ken Van Hovel in Campbell, MN. Jo worked as a loan officer and Teller at the First National Bank in Breckenridge, MN. She was also the Wilkin County abstractor and recorder. Her favorite occupation was being Real Estate Agent. She attended First Baptist Church in Holland, Texas; First Baptist Church in Campbell, MN; Faith Community Church in Campbell MN; First Baptist Church Breckenridge, MN; and Methodist Church Temple, Texas. She thoroughly studied her genealogy and enjoyed sharing it with her children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends. She enjoyed being involved with the Minnesota State Finance Board of Housing, the National Board of Housing in Washington D.C., and the Texas State Board of Affordable Housing. There was nothing that she was afraid to take on as a challenge.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Ken Van Hovel; brother, Jim Wilson and wife, Joyce; daughter, Debra Hoff and husband, Terry; son, Troy Van Hovel and wife, Annette; grandson, Mitchell Hoff and wife, Becca; grandson, Kyle Hoff and fiancé, Kristin; granddaughter, Alexis Leisinger; granddaughter, Brookelynn Rickabaugh; and grandson, Damien Van Hovel. She was blessed with 7 great-grandchildren, Reese, Riley, Everly, Levi, Brin, Quinn Marie, and Vivian. She is also survived by her special cousin, June who was always there.
A time of visitation will be held from 12-2 pm Wednesday, prior to the service at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.
