Jean Mcmurtry

May 24, 1917 — April 15, 2010

Jean McMurtry, 92, of Troy, formerly of Temple, passed away Thursday, April 15th at a local nursing center. Visitation will be 68 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 17th at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple with Mike McMurtry officiating. Interment will be in Greathouse Cemetery in Temple.
Mrs. McMurtry was born May 24, 1917 to William and Ada Ashcraft Crenshaw in Rogers. She has lived in this area all of her life. She married Lucian Lee McMurtry in March, 1939. He predeceased her March, 1985. She graduated from Four C Business College in Waco and was a member of the secretary pool at the Texas State Capital. She has been a member of the First Christian Church for 80 years. During that time she has served on the board in many capacities. She was an active member and served as former President of Christian Womens Fellowship. She was employed as a secretary in the accounting department of Kings Daughters Hospital for 20 years before retiring.
Mrs. McMurtry was predeceased by her parents husband, Lucian Lee McMurtry October, 1985 daughter, Freddie Whitlow 1 grandson and 1 granddaughter sister, Bessie Muhlenbrach brothers, Sherman Shorty Crenshaw, Felix Crenshaw, Eli Crenshaw and Wesley Crenshaw. She is survived by 2 sons: Billy McMurtry and wife, Tommie of Gonzales and Joe McMurtry and wife, Mary Alice of Troy 2 daughters, Rea York of Troy and Sue Parker and husband, Don of El Paso 10 grandchildren: Mike McMurtry and wife, Lynn, Gary McMurtry and wife, Beth, Craig McMurtry and wife, Joanna, Pamela Stahr and husband, Jimmy, Debra York, Marie Chirhart and husband, Bud, Bubba York and wife, Diana, Donna Kay Parker and husband, Brent, Robbie Parker and wife, Staci and Lee McMurtry and wife, Bonnie 20 great grandchildren, and 11 greatgreat grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Childrens Education Fund at First Christian Church of Temple, 300 North 5th Street, Temple, TX 76501.
