Jean Garner, 86 of Temple, devoted wife, mother, motherin law, grandmother, greatgrandmother and a friend to all she met, peacefully passed away Sunday evening, April 17, 2011 in a Temple hospital.
Jean was born on October 28, 1924 to Dennis and Eunice Ramsey in Valdasta, Texas. On May 24, 1945, she married Lloyd Garner in Neosho, Missouri. They moved to Temple in 1947 where she worked in the family grocery store, Farleys Grocery, along side her husband, sister and brotherinlaw and other family members until 1958. She then began her banking career at First National Bank of Temple and was the first female officer of the bank, working in the Trust Department until she retired in 1990.
Jean was very active in the betterment of her community. She was a member of the Western Hills Church of Christ, Altrusa Club International of Temple, Temple Chamber of Commerce, Red Carpet Ambassadors and the National Association of Bank Women.
She was President of the Altrusa Club of Temple in 198081, was awarded Altrusan of the Year in1986. She worked with the Temple Chamber for over 25 years and was Red Carpet Ambassador of the Year 2009 and 2010.
Her husband Lloyd Garner, her sisters Faye Farley and Yvonne Markovitz and two brothers James Ramsey and Odell Ramsey preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son Gary Garner and his wife Judy of Temple grandson Scott Garner and wife Nicole of Little Elm two greatgrandchildren Andrew and Ryan Garner of Little Elm, and many nieces and nephews.
The many people she touched with her endearing personality, infectious smile and genuine love of life will miss Jean. She made everyone feel special, and she loved her family more than life itself.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple, with her nephew Eddie Howard officiating. Private Interment at Bellwood Memorial Park, Temple.
