Janie Martinez, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, in Temple, Texas, at the age of 79. Born on January 26, 1946, in Killeen, Texas, Janie was a person who embodied kindness and passion for life, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Janie was characterized by her unwavering faith and love for Christian music, often sharing her joy with those around her by participating in church activities. Her devotion to her family was evident in everything she did, from lovingly preparing meals for family gatherings to expressing her excitement and love during celebrations such as her beloved Thanksgiving and her own birthday. Her passion extended to her favorite color, blue, and her delight in enjoying meals at Luby's Restaurant.
Janie had a particular fondness for roses, which were emblematic of her nurturing spirit. Her love and dedication to her grandchildren radiated throughout her life, as she invested in their well-being and happiness. Additionally, her enjoyment of western movies provided many moments of shared laughter and connection with her family.
Janie's legacy will be carried on by her surviving loved ones: her brother, Ricky Martinez; her sons, Gilbert Bienardo Quinteros, Juan Luis Martinez, and Julio Alberto Martinez; and her daughters, Juanita Martinez and Yolanda Martinez. She will be profoundly missed by her family, including several grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, Gregorio Martinez; her mother, Genobeba Martinez; her brother, George Martinez Jr.; and her grandchildren, Shannon Lee Martinez and Andrew Avitia.
The family invites all who knew Janie to pay their respects during a visitation on November 12, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home, located at 500 W Barton Ave, Temple, TX, 76501. A funeral service honoring her life will take place the following day, November 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Bethel Church, situated at 22621 SE H K Dodgen, Temple, TX, 76502.
