Boatswain’s Mate First Class James Thompson, United States Navy, passed away at the age of 37 while serving on active duty.
James was born in Temple and raised in Rogers, Texas, and graduated from Rogers High School. At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2006 and went on to serve 19 years with distinction. As a Boatswain’s Mate First Class, he deployed aboard both aircraft carriers and cruisers, earning the respect of his shipmates and leaving a lasting mark on every command he served.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Carona Thompson; their children, Lyla and Logan; his parents, James and Susan Thompson; and his siblings, Zach Thompson, Tyler Thompson, and Temple Alicia Thompson, Corey Zynda and Kevin Zynda.
James will be remembered for his service, dedication, and sacrifice to his country.
Services to honor his life will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 11 am at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. Graveside honors will follow at 2 pm at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery and a memorial gathering of family and friends will be held at the VFW 3892 in Harker Heights.
