Jay Bojorquez, 79, a 10-year resident of Temple, Texas, passed away July 13th at his home. His family will hold a small, private service. Jay was born on the family farm in Monticello, New Mexico. As a young man, he volunteered to fight forest fires in the Black Range Mountains. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon being discharged, he attended college at Western New Mexico University graduating with a bachelor's degree in Accounting. Jay was a financial auditor who retired from Thomason General Hospital in El Paso.
Jay was a committed volunteer, having served on the City of Temple's Tax Increment Finance Reinvestment Zone Board. Before moving to Temple, Jay was active in his community of Horizon City (El Paso County) for more than 30 years. He served as an elected member of the Horizon Regional Municipal Utilities District Board of Directors, commander of the American Legion Post, president of the Lion's Club, president of the Horizon Communities Improvement Association, treasurer of the Horizon Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the Troop Committee for Boy Scout Troop 55 (Yucca Council). Although Jay was not a football fan, he was a devout Dallas Cowboys fan (having never missed a game on TV or the radio, and he even attended a few).
Jay is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty, daughters Carolyn Saint Clare, Brenda Palmer, Valarie Thomas, Kathy King, and Yvette Bojorquez-Flores, son Alan Bojorquez, 18 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Jay also had many beloved relatives in the Albuquerque area.
Family meant everything to Jay, and now he has gone on to join his departed loved ones.
