Jackie Carter

Services for Jackie M. Carter, 87, of Temple will be 6 p.m. Monday, June 29, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with Jesse and John Ratliff officiating. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, at Temple Garden of Memories in Temple.

Mr. Carter died Thursday, June 25th, at his home in Temple.

Mr. Carter was born December 2, 1927, in Fort Worth to George Millard Carter and Nora Isabell Bailey Carter. He graduated from Breckenridge High School. Jackie enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February 1945 and served his country as a Corpman during World War II and the Korean Conflict specializing in pharmacy and medical laboratory and testing. He retired from the Navy in 1965. He married Bertha Severt in 1965, a year later they started their family which grew to seven children. Jackie owned and operated several fuel stations and was a man of many trades. He sold insurance, worked for King's Daughters Hospital as an environmental specialist, and worked for Temple Independent School District. Jackie was a hardworking man. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading. Jackie was a faithful Christian and served the Lord at the Abundant Life United Pentecostal Church in Temple.

He is preceded in death by his parents; children, Jack Carter, Edith Brown, and Tammy Carter; brothers, Elton Carter, Billy Carter, Bill Wylie, Dean Wylie; sisters, Odessa Wylie, Theda Carter, and Ruby Parsons.

Survivors include his wife; sons, James M. Carter of Texas City, TX, Brian K. Carter of Groesbeck, TX, Robert A. Carter of Temple, TX, William A. Carter of Texas City, TX, Charles E. Carter of Temple, TX, and Jason Carter of Temple, TX; and daughter, Sheila R. Carter of Abilene, TX ; sisters, Ola Mae Cole and Janie Gibson; grandchildren, Cruz Silva, Carlo Fernandez, Brandon Carter, Trinity Carter, Kelton Carter, Ashton Carter, Logan Carter, Ethan Carter-Armstrong, Isaic Carter, and Jack Carter; and great-grandchildren, Mila Fernandez and Kloe Fernandez.

Visitation will be Monday, June 29th from 9 to 5 at the funeral home.
