Services for Jack Edmond Thompson, 88, of Troy, will be Thursday, July 10th, at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church in Troy, Texas with Mike McMurtry and Reverend Harlan Haynes officiating. The visitation will be Wednesday, July 9th, from 5 7 pm at Harper Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. Interment will be at Bellwood Memorial Park.
Jack Edmond Thompson passed away Monday, July 7th, at his home.
Jack was born on December 5, 1925, on the family farm near Troy. He was the only son of Aubrey and Lennie Bow Thompson. Jack graduated from Troy High School in 1943, and married Elizabeth McGregor on June 19, 1948. Being raised on a farm during the depression, Jack developed close ties to agriculture which prevailed throughout his life. He was a heavy equipment operator for the Central Texas Soil and Water Conservation District. He worked for the city of Troy Water Department for 22 years and was a life member of the State of Texas Water Utilities Association. For 25 years, Jack was an observer and reporter for the National Weather Service.
Jack retired from the United States Postal Service after serving as a rural mail carrier for 28 years. He was a charter member of the Troy Volunteer Fire Department, a 64 year member of the Troy Masonic Lodge, and a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Troy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters Christell McCarroll, Tootsie Wandelt, and Louise Carberry. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth, and two sisters Jamie Dooley of Temple and Anna McGregor of North Richland Hills, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Uncle Jack loved children, cats and dogs, delighted in teasing his nieces and nephews, singing ditties, and riding around seeing the sights, especially the crops and machinery. He was a lifelong fan of the Texas Aggies.
Pallbearers will be Jim McCarroll, Tom Dooley, Kevin Mayo, Preston Mayo, Conner Mayo, Jordan Simms, Aaron George, Jess George, and Robert Punko. Honorary Pallbearers will be C.F. Ellis, Frank Thompson, Wallace Biscup, Dave Nix, and Anton Pechal.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Troy, The Troy Volunteer Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.
