Mrs. Ima Joyce Guess Ashby, 84 of Temple died May 27, 2010 in her home. Arrangements are with HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple. She was born in Meadow, Texas on May 8, 1926 to Brister E. and Ima Lee Fulton Guess. She grew up in Rogers and became a Christian at an early age. She graduated from Rogers High School in 1943 and attended Texas State Teachers College for Women now Texas Womens University in Denton.
She married Vernon Glenn Ashby of Rogers on May 5, 1945. They were blessed with two daughters. They lived throughout Texas as Vernon was employed by City, State, and Federal Governments.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her sister Laura Wanda Frazier, and her brother B.M. Guess.
She is survived by her daughters Glenda Joyce Laza and Patricia Wanda Acree, her soninlaw Bill Acree, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 8 nieces, 2 nephews, and several great nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond, and a very close friend M.Z. Ray.
After the death of her husband, Joyce went to work for Scott White. She was later employed by the Texas Department of Health from which she retired in 1989.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 4:00pm at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple, and conducted by Dr. Tom Henderson, Director of Missions, Bell Baptist Association, and Rev. Billy Koinm, pastor at Heights Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be: Travis Williams, Fred Kubitza, Michael Erlanson, Matthew Acree, and Jerrod Acree.
