Herman Gillmeister

Herman O. Gillmeister, 87, of Temple, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 in a Temple nursing center.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with Pastor Vic Kilian officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.

Mr. Gillmeister was born to Louis Carl and Paula Etta Ribbeck Gillmeister in Temple on October 30, 1921. He had been a resident of Houston for 54 years, returning to Temple 5 years ago. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years. He married Helen Kellermann Schneider in New Braunfels on June 24, 1971. Mr. Gillmeister was a member of Covenant Lutheran Church in Temple.

Survivors include one stepson, Marvin Schneider and wife, Pat of Round Rock; four brothers, Fred Gillmeister and wife, Zella of Milton, West Virginia, Leonard Gillmeister and wife, Marjorie of Temple, Emil Gillmeister and wife, Lovie of Temple, and Gilbert Gillmeister of Temple; three stepgrandchildren, Steven Schneider, David Schneider, and Dana Ragsdill; and five step grandchildren, Ben Schneider, Colin Schneider, Kiera Schneider, Trinity Ragsdill, and Taylor Ragsdill. He was preceded in death by his wife on March 3, 2008.

Visitation will be Sunday from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the charity of one's choice.
