Henry Edward Janacek, 85, of Temple died Monday at a local hospital.
Mr. Janacek was born August 9, 1924 to Stefan and Frances Mayer Janacek in Burlington. He proudly served his country in the U S Army as a medicparatrooper. He enlisted March 1943 at Fort Sam Houston and was honorably discharged February 1946 at Camp Fannin. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WWII. His decorations and citations include American Theater Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. After his discharge from the Army. He married Helen Spurek in the Marak Community on November 23, 1948. He worked as a farmer, rancher, welder and carpenter. Mr. Janacek and his wife were very active in SPJST Lodge 47 in Seaton where he worked and held office for 20 plus years He also received the lodges Lifetime Achiever Award in 2003. Mr. Janacek played the accordion with the Cameron Playboys and was a bus driver for Lost Prairie School. He loved hunting, camping and fishing at Lake Somerville with his daughters and their families. He was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Cyclone.
Mr. Janacek is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Spurek Janacek; 2 brothers, Joe Janacek and Frank Janacek; and sister, Frances Cabla.
He is survived by his daughters: Doris Marek and husband, Leonard of Temple and Rosemary Ann Chudej and husband, Tony of Temple; sister: Agnes Schiller of Temple; 5 grandchildren: Jenny Magana and husband, Danny of Temple, Julie Riffle and Naka Oliphant of Temple, Amanda Marek of Temple, Melissa Adkins of Austin, Steven Chudej of Robinson; 5 great grandchildren: Avery, Jason, Casie, Ethan and Emma.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home with the rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m., Friday at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Cyclone with burial in St. Josephs Cemetery.
Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple is in charge of arrangements.
