Helyn Sue McMurtry Parker, 84, longtime resident of El Paso, Texas, passed away on February 12, 2016. Sue was born in Temple, Texas, on May 1, 1931. She graduated from Temple High School and attended Mary Hardin Baylor College and graduated from Temple Jr. College. She also lived in Farmington, New Mexico, where she met her husband of 56 years, Don Robert Parker, while working as a dental assistant. They moved to El Paso in 1967.
Sue nourished those around her with her sense of humor, kind heart and strong faith. She dedicated many years of faithful service to her church, Bethany Christian, and volunteered for 25 years on the Sierra Medical Center Auxiliary, including serving as Auxiliary Board President and State Board Representative.
She is survived by her children Donna Parker Branum (Brent) and Robert Parker (Stacey); grandchildren Samantha Parker, James Parker, and Dylan Branum; and step grandchildren Todd Branum, Derrick Branum, and Leah Branum; brother Joe McMurtry (Mary Alice) and sister Rea McMurtry York of Troy, TX, and many nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents Lucian Lee and Leatha Maude McMurtry, stepmother Jean McMurtry, infant daughter Susan Jean Parker, siblings Freddie Lee McMurtry Whitlow, Lucian Lee "Billy" McMurtry, Jr. and husband Don Robert Parker.
Services will be held at Bethany Christian Church in El Paso on Thursday, February 18 (viewing 4-6pm, service 6pm). Graveside service will be held at Belfalls Cemetery, Belfalls, TX on Saturday, February 27 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or charity of your choice.
