Hazel Machalek

Services for Hazel Machalek, 100, of Temple will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 27 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with Reverend Judy Gotcher and Reverend Judy
Tolbert officiating. Private interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Mrs. Machalek passed away Thursday, December 21, at a local hospital.

Hazel Machalek was born August 15, 1917 in Troy, Texas to James M. Willcoxson and Etta M. Gresham Willcoxson of Troy. She was raised in a two-room house in Troy and
attended school and graduated from Troy High School. Her parents were sharecroppers. Hazel worked the fields, was a telephone operator, cleaned homes, and took care
of mothers and their newborn babies. She graduated from LVN nursing school in 1951 at King Daughter's Hospital. Hazel worked at King Daughter's Hospital for eleven years
and then worked at the Southside Medical Clinic for Doctor W. J. Bruce for 28 years, retiring in 1984. She married Frank Machalek in 1939. He preceded her in death in 1978
after 39 years of marriage. Hazel began bowling at age 40 and bowled for 53 years. She was a charter member of Temple Women's Bowling Association. Hazel attended many
city and state tournaments. She was a lifetime member of the Central Texas Sportsman's Club. Hazel was an avid poker player and played up until a week before she became ill.
Hazel lived in Temple since 1946.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Machalek; sister, Christine; and two brothers, Allen and Odell.

She is survived by four nephews, Carl Tolbert of Magnolia, Texas, James E. Tolbert of Eddy, Texas, David and Randall Willcoxson of Tucson, Arizona; three great-nephews;
one great-niece; several great-great nieces and nephews; many loving in-laws; and many, many bowling and poker friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Central Texas Sportsman's Club for their Santa Claus project for needy children at P.O. Box 2121 Temple, Texas 76501.

Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple is in charge of arrangements.
