Harry Benjamin Nielsen, Sr., 95, of Temple, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008 in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple with Chaplain Judy Hoelscher officiating.
Mr. Nielsen was born to Senator Jens Nielsen and Beulah Lillian Johnson Nielsen in Omaha, Nebraska on October 13, 1912. He served in the U.S. Army as a lst Lieutenant during World War II. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1953 with a bachelors degree in Accounting. He worked as a salesman for Chevrolet in Temple for more than 22 years. He married Ruby Howe in Temple on August 19, 1978. He was a 65 year member of First Baptist Church in Temple, and was also a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Nielsen of Temple; son, Harry Benjamin Nielsen, Jr.; daughter, Nancy Nielsen Abshier; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife and mother of his children, Lois Walker Nielsen; and brother, George Nielsen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 7000, El Segundo, California 90245.
