Guadalupe Hernandez Valdez was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the age of 91. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with Pastor Earl Serrano officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Guadalupe was born on December 12, 1932, to Salvador (La Cotorra) Hernandez and Amelia DeLeon in Milam County. She married 1SG Charles T. Valdez on April 5, 1954. Guadalupe supported her husband throughout his military career and across the globe having been stationed in various locations including, Germany, Panama, Fort Bragg, NC & Ft. Hood Texas. After retiring from military service, they settled in Temple. She worked as a homemaker and was employed with Scott & White Hospital for over 23 years. Guadalupe and Charles had four children who also served honorably in the US Army: 1SG Charles Valdez Jr., 1SG Tony Valdez, 1SG Porfirio Valdez, and 1SG Pearl Houck. Furthermore, seven grandsons, Tony Valdez, Tom Childress, Michael Childress, Josh Wood, Justin Wood, Rick Vasquez, Jon Moser, and one great grandson, Kevin Vasquez, have also served in the military. Guadalupe was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Temple.
Guadalupe is preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Valdez, Charles Valdez Jr., Paula Valdez, parents Amelia and Salvador Hernandez, three brothers, Antonio (Top) Hernandez, Porfirio (Quila) Hernandez, Jesse Hernandez, and two sisters, Mary Esparza and Clarita Hernandez.
She is survived by five brothers and two sisters, Jimmy Hernandez, Joe (Little Joe) Hernandez, Johnny Hernandez, Rocky Hernandez, Gilbert Hernandez, Carmen Jackson and Caroline Rios. Surviving children with spouses; Carolyn and Gilbert Jimenez, Sheila Barbian, Vera and Joseph Fino, Tony and Connie Valdez, Pearl and Thomas Houck, and Pete Valdez. In addition, 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; and one great great great grandchild.
Honoring Guadalupe as pallbearers are Tony Valdez, Pete Valdez, Rick Vasquez, Tom Childress, Thomas Houck and Joseph Fino.
A time of visitation will be held from 5-6:30 pm with a Holy Rosary recited at 6:30 pm Friday, October 25, 2024, at the funeral home.
