Gertrude Evelyn (Klepac) McKina, a woman of great strength and grace, departed from this world on Friday, February 23rd 2024, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by those who knew her. Born in Granger, Texas on October 13th, 1937, Gertrude's journey on this earth was one marked by steadfast determination and unwavering love.
Graduating from Temple High School, Gertrude's thirst for knowledge was matched only by her passion for life. She dedicated many years of her career to working at K-Mart in Detroit, Michigan.
As a mother to Tom, Jon, and Lauri, Gertrude embodied the essence of maternal love. She was their rock – supportive, honest, and never shy to impart invaluable life lessons. Her belief in her children was unwavering and she made sure to show them every day just how much they meant to her.
Gertrude's love for sports was evident to all who knew her. Baseball, football, and hockey held a special place in her heart, with the Detroit Redwings being a team she cheered for with unmatched fervor.
A woman of immense talent and creativity, Gertrude was described as an artist and a superstar. Her capabilities seemed boundless, and there was truly nothing she couldn't accomplish. Her proudest achievements were not accolades or awards but rather her beloved grandchildren whom she cherished dearly.
In the hearts of those who survive her, Gertrude's spirit will be passed down through the generations. Her legacy will live on through her children, Tom, Jon, and Lauri; grandchildren, Heather Lynn Larson, Alexander Jordan Whalen and wife Beth, William Robert Bozarth, Sharridan McKina, Brandon McKina, Brittney McKina Caswell; and great grandchildren, Kyle Eric Larson, Nicholas James Larson, Emillian Jade Larson, and Ayla Rain Caswell. She is preceded by her parents; loving husband, Robert R. McKina; and brother, Johnny F. Klepac.
Services will be held in her honor at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple on March 9th at 2 pm.
May her soul find peace in the embrace of eternity as we carry forth her memory with us until we meet again.
