Geraldine Lucy Wilde Doskocil, age 97, passed from this life on the morning of Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, at an assisted living facility in Temple. Funeral mass will take place at 11 am Friday, April 5, 2024, with Rev. Ranjan Cletus officiating, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cyclone. Interment will follow in Cyclone Cemetery.
Geraldine was born September 8, 1926, to Otto & Dorothy (Rotthoff) Wilde in Westphalia, Texas. She went to school at Westphalia Content School, graduating from Rosebud High School in 1944.
She married JoeLee Doskocil of Cyclone in 1947 at the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia. They lived in Cyclone for the first 31 years of their life, except for a few farming years in Rio Hondo. During her time in Cyclone, Geraldine was a participating member of St. Joseph’s Parish and Altar Society. She worked hard creating a home as a farmer’s wife, doing most anything and everything needed, while having and raising 5 children: Ken, Carolyn, Marian, Annette, and Ronnie. In 1978, they moved to Academy where she became a member of St. Mary’s Parish and Altar Society for the remainder of her life.
During her years on the farm, she also did all the sewing for all the girls and women in her family, including her mother. Her skill at sewing was impeccable. In addition, she was skilled at embroidery and crocheting and was able to enjoy crocheting long into her retirement years. Her favorite enjoyment though was dancing, and the sound of a good ‘ol waltz would get her foot tapping away in an instant.
She is survived by four of her five children, Kenneth Doskocil (wife Arlene and kids Darren and Jennifer) of California, Ronald Doskocil (wife Sheri and kids Lesa and Macyen) of Belton, Marian Doskocil of Belton, and Annette Zahirniak (husband Daniel and kids Aubrey, Erica, and Allison) of Georgia, and grandson Gavin Gerngross (wife Sarah) of Houston. She was also blessed with 8 great grandchildren, Joseph, Danica, and Jackson Doskocil, Trina, Asher, and Eliana Gerngross, and Jordy, and Parker Taylor.
A time of visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with a holy rosary recited at 6 pm.
