Garland Shell

January 8, 1921 — April 5, 2011

G. Newman Shell was born January 8, 1921 to Rev. Garland Shell and Bessie Newman Shell, in Childress, Texas. He attended Trinity University where he graduated in 1942. That same year he married Ruth Estelle Manton of Dallas with whom he shared 61 years of loving companionship until her death in 2003. In 2004 he married Beverly Kihneman Graves of Houston, and they shared six years of love and laughter until her death in November, 2010.
In 1982 Newman retired as Chief International Exploration Geophysicist of the Cities Service Oil Co., after 35 years of service. He was an active Presbyterian Deacon and Elder, and a member of St. Lukes Presbyterian Church of Houston.
He is survived by his children, the Rev. Ann Shell LaMar of Tulsa, OK, Dr. David Newman Shell of Houston, and Sara Shell Brobston of Tulsa, OK by stepchildren, Glenda Graves Dickenson of Houston, Dr. Robert Graves of Burnet, and Joseph Graves of Round Rock their spouses, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.
A service of celebration of his life will be held at St. Lukes Presbyterian Church, Houston on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 1:00 PM.
Memorial gifts may be directed to St. Lukes Presbyterian Church or Reach Unlimited Learning Center for the developmentally disabled.
There will be a family graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery, Temple TX.
