Mrs. Freddie McMurtry Whitlow, 87, of Oenaville, died Saturday, February 2, 2008 in a Temple nursing center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 4, 2008 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with Rev. Roy Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Belfalls Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Whitlow was born to Lucian Lee McMurtry and Leatha Maude Lancaster McMurtry in Bell County on September 21, 1920. She was a lifelong resident of Bell County. She married W. J. Whitlow on February 25, 1941 in Temple. Shewas a graduate of the Kings Daughters Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a nurse at the hospital for 18 years. She was a former Employee Of The Year.
She was Dr. William J. Beans nurse for several years. During World War II, she worked at the munitions plant in McGregor and also at the P.X. in the V.A. Hospital in Temple. She was a member of Oenaville Baptist Church.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Zaragoza of Temple; daughter-in-law, Carla Whitlow of Oenaville; brothers, Joe Milton McMurtry of Troy and Bill McMurtry of Gonzales; sisters, Leatha Rea York of Temple and Sue Parker of El Paso; and stepmother, Jean McMurtry of Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband, her son, Joe Lynn Whitlow and her parents.
