Fred Chappell, 74, of Temple passed away Thursday, March 6 at a local hospital. Visitation will be today at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 8 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Bellwood Memorial Park with full military honors. He was born Feb 4, 1934 to Ed and Edna Russell Chappell in Falls County, Texas. He married Elaine Wunch, January 1, 1955. They were married 53 years at the time of his passing.

Mr. Chappell enlisted in the U.S. Army, January 1, 1953 and after 20 years of service retired January 30, 1973 at the rank of E7. He was veteran of the Korean War. His military awards include 6 Good Conduct Awards, Army Commendation Award with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, United Nations Service Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, 1st Class Missleman Award, Expert Rifle Award, 2nd Class AA Artillery Badge, and Expert Rifle Marksman.

After retiring from the military he worked 10 years for Montgomery Wards as a salesman. He served as municipal judge of Rosebud for 10 years.

Mr. Chappell is preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers. He is survived by his wife, 1 brother, Buford Chappell of Temple and 1 sister, Shirley Burns of Rosebud.
