Graveside services for Evelyn Alma Petuch, 91, of Belton, will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 27 at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Temple with Father Justin Yawn officiating.

Mrs. Petuch passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017, at a local care facility while surrounded by her loving family.

Evelyn Alma Petuch was born May 18, 1925 in Seaton, Texas to Paul S. Laza and Annie Motl Laza. Mrs. Petuch was a lifelong Bell County resident. Being the youngest of 12, she learned the value of hard work and sacrifice from her family. As a young girl growing up in East Bell County during the Great Depression, like many other families during the era, she was a part of a farming family that overcame at all costs and stuck together. She met and fell in love with Frank A. Petuch during World War II. They were married on August 12, 1943 in Temple. Their love and care for each other remained withstanding throughout their 53 years of marriage. Together they raised 5 children, instilling in them the same ideals of love, sacrifice, and hard work that she was raised with. Evelyn and Frank loved to dance together from the very beginning. In fact it is how they met and it was something they carried with them throughout their life together. Every weekend they enjoyed going to Star Hall or Uncle Tom's to dance. Even after her husband's passing in 1996, dancing was one of the many things that kept her going.

For 43 years, she and Mr. Petuch owned and operated A-1 Upholstery in Temple. Riding the ups and downs of having their own small business proved to have its challenges but was fulfilling to the highest degree. Evelyn was a very accomplished seamstress at their business and loved sewing of all kinds in her spare time as well. She made all kinds of clothing for her family and herself. She also enjoyed embroidery and crocheting. Mrs. Petuch was a wonderful homemaker. She was a brilliant cook and kept a very neat and tidy household. Evelyn truly treasured her gardens and flower beds at home, she worked very hard at making them grow and keeping them beautiful. Later in life she was a resident of Park Place Manor in Belton where she was a one person welcoming committee and unofficial care taker. She did what she could to make sure that new comers where made to feel at home and cared for many of friends there. Evelyn was a sweet soul who will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Mrs. Petuch was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; six brothers; and five sisters.

She is survived by a son, James A. Petuch of San Diego, California; four daughters, Patricia Holland and husband Doug of Bay City, Phyllis Hobbs of Temple, Deborah Mock and husband David of Frisco, and Cynthia Gallmon of Houston; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

A time of visitation and fellowship will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Harper-Talasek Funeral Home of Temple.
