On April 17, 2012, Evelyn Lackey Chilcoat, claimed the victory of eternal life with God her father. Evelyn was born in Ada, OK on December 26, 1922. She spent her youth in Oklahoma and West Texas. Although Evelyn didnt realize it at the time, she met the love of her life, Doyle Chilcoat, when they were both in high school in Oklahoma. After graduating from high school, Doyle was drafted into the army and Evelyn went off to college for a year. She then moved to Wichita, KS to work for the WWII war effort. She was a welder for Boeing Aircraft. When the war was over in Europe, Doyle came home on a 90 day leave and he and Evelyn were married in Wichita, Kansas. They were married for 65 years, until he passed away in December 2011. Evelyn and Doyle lived in Temple for 46 years. For the last few years of their lives they lived in an assisted living facility in Houston, close to family. Evelyn lived an energetic, hardworking, devoted life. She loved people and loved to serve them. She cooked for and fed just about everyone she ever met. Her home was inviting and welcoming to many people over the years. Evelyn loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Don Lackey, her children, Kevin and Brenda Chilcoat and Monica and John Meredith, her grandchildren, Dwight Chilcoat, Erin and Jason Maxey, Carrie and Steven Gould, Matthew and Shannon Meredith and Deanna Meredith. And five great grandchildren, with one on the way. Evelyn was a faithful and devoted Christian and a long time member of the Northside Church of Christ in Temple. Evelyn loved the church. She taught childrens Bible classes, hosted gatherings, taught Ladies Bible classes, and was always willing to help. Evelyn and Doyle also spent numerous hours volunteering at the Love of Christ Center in Temple. A graveside service will be held in Glover, OK on Saturday, April 21 at 2:00 pm.
