Obituary

Eva Marie Vrba Farley, formerly of El Campo, Houston and Temple, TX, passed away on June 30, 2026, at the age of 87. She was born in Tours, McClennan County, Texas, on November 21, 1938, to the late Edward John and Mary Stepan Vrba.

In 1946, the Vrba family moved to Temple. She attended St. Mary’s School then Temple High School. A Wildcat cheerleader, on the Student Council, being named Ideal girl were just a few of her accolades, but the best thing she did was her sophomore year when she asked Ramsey Wayne Farley to the annual Sadie Hawkins dance and they became high school sweethearts. On August 16, 1958, Eva and Ramsey were married, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Temple.

She graduated from Temple High School in 1957 and became a member of Beta Sigma Phi, an organization she remained active in for almost 70 years. She held numerous offices and titles throughout the years and has remained close to her sorority sisters until the end.

Eva followed Ramsey to The University of Texas at Austin where she worked for the Naval ROTC on campus and was elected Mrs. University of Texas by the Married Students Association in 1959. While at UT, she and Ramsey cultivated lifelong friendships and made so many memories. From Longhorn games to TX/OU weekends their stories were endless.

Upon Ramsey’s graduation, they moved to Houston, to work for Getty Oil. During this time, Ramsey and Eva welcomed two daughters into their lives. Kristina Leigh in 1969 and Kendall Ramsey in 1971.

Eva was an avid entertainer. Whether throwing holiday open houses, summertime luaus, or end of school pool parties for the children, every party usually involved a hand-written invitation, a guest book, and nametags for all. They always included wonderful food, drinks, and fun with all of her family and friends. She had exquisite taste and loved decorating their many homes over the years. She and several friends started a tour guide company in the 70s, Contemporary Programs, taking the wives of conventioneers around Houston and presenting programs to them. Together they wrote a book about life as a woman in the 70s, full of decorating and cooking tips, how to do your hair… all the things a hip, fashionable woman should know about. Later, she had a television program called Age is Just a Number, highlighting and interviewing Houston Women “of a certain age.” Upon returning from California, after the Getty-Pennzoil merger, she wrote a book called Merging Wives and then a second volume after the Texaco-Chevron merger. She was definitely a model Wife, Mother, and Friend.

Throughout her life, Eva has always been very active in her family, church, schools, and communities where they lived. A member of Houston Junior Forum for over 50 years, a member of both the St. Thomas More and St. Agnes Academy School Boards, President of both the Strake Jesuit and St. Agnes Academy Mothers Clubs, Owner and Tour Guide with Contemporary Programs, member of the Joske’s Houston Fashion Board, and the SPE Auxilliary. A Member of Junior Service League and National Charity League while in California. In New Orleans, she served on the Board of Directors of the United Way, the Lighthouse for the Blind, and Covenant House, to name a few. She even organized a huge party at the Audubon Zoo for the 1988 Republican Convention. When back in Temple she became involved with the Temple Historical District, the City Federation of Women’s Club, the Central Texas Republican Womens Club and the St. Mary’s Building Foundation. When they moved to El Campo, she joined the Torchbearer Beta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, the Taiton Extension Club, Catholic Daughters, and the El Campo Garden Club and also became known for driving her Mustang convertible and always wearing a hat in church and around town.

When she and Ramsey came back to Houston after living in New Orleans and the girls were out of the house, Eva decided not to get back into her old routine of service and philanthropy and decided to do the one thing her high school counselor told her she could never do… become a Flight Attendant. She applied to American Airlines, graduated from flight attendant school, and became an International Flight Attendant based out of JFK airport in New York. In 1992, she earned title of Professional Flight Attendant of the year. During her ten plus years of flying, she traveled all over, enjoying places far and near, and always bringing back treasures for the family. Towards the end of her career, she and Kendall became roommates in Hell’s Kitchen in NYC. They truly enjoyed exploring the city and other locations together.

As fate would have it, Kendall and Eva were reunited as roommates again. For the last five years Kendall had become her case manager, her caregiver in charge, her advocate, her bestie. Always making sure she matched to the occasion (a Farley Family curse), her hair was fashionable, makeup impeccable, and everything was perfect. During these last five years, she became an avid Astros fan, kept up with her Longhorns, and always dressed for whatever game or occasion. Eva was not always the easiest patient, but they always managed to treat her like a Queen. We thank all of her caregivers, for the love and care they have given her for these last few years. Our gratitude also to the staffs and nurses at both The Reserve at Sugarland and Three Oaks Hospice, who made her feel comfortable and at home the last few weeks. But most especially thanks to Kendall, Barbara, Paula, Lisa, Tency who were with her until the very end.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kristina Leigh Farley Linzza of El Campo and Kendall Ramsey Farley of Sugarland. A son, Craig Wayne Farley. Grandchildren Collin Ramsey, Harrison Wayne, and Shelby Faye Linzza of El Campo, Travis Wayne Farley and Grand Dog Charlie Faye Farley of Sugarland. Brothers Wayne Vrba of New Braunfels and Pat Vrba and Cathy of Corpus Christi. Sister-in-Law Sandra Vrba of Rosenberg. Sister-in-Law Joycie Bryant of Canyon. Brother-in-Law Dennis Farley and Marlene of Rockwall. Numerous nieces, nephews, and 39 Godchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents. Her husband of 58 years, Ramsey. Brothers Norman Eugene Vrba and Donald Edward Vrba, Sr. Son-in-Law Christopher “Hoss” Linzza. Sister-in-Law Jana Price Vrba. Brother-in-Law Bill Bryant. Nephew Michael Wayne Farley.

Visitation will take place Friday, June 12, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple, Texas from 10:00AM-12:00PM, with a funeral service to follow. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery when services conclude.
