Eugene Wilkins

January 23, 1928 — April 6, 2018

Eugene Morris Wilkins, 90, of Temple, passed from this life on April 6, 2018 at home while surrounded by his beloved family. Mr. Wilkins was born on January 23, 1928 to Henry and Laveta Wilkins in San Antonio, TX.

Eugene has lived in the Temple area for over 40 years. He and his wife moved here from Gonzales, TX in the mid 1970's. He was the head of the Physical Therapy Department at Scott & White Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1990. Eugene's work at Scott and White was very important to him. He was an instrumental part of the hospital for many years. One of the many things he'll be remembered for the most was that he started and organized health and exercise events such as 5k and 10k runs. After his retirement he began volunteering for the National Parks Service and spent time in many beautiful places all across our great country. A couple of his favorite places to go for the NPS were, Apostle Island National Lake Shore on Lake Superior in Wisconsin and Harpers Ferry National Historic Park in West Virginia. It was these two places that he relished the opportunity to return to time and time again. Eugene was an avid reader and collected many books over the years.
Mr. Wilkins was a good hearted Christian man who was continually serving others. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone when he was able. His greatest treasure in life was his family. Eugene was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was always involved and present at whatever activities his children were active in. He was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts and was there every step of the way with his sons as they both achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Eugene will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Lennie Lavigne Wilkins; sons, Warren Allen Wilkins and wife Anne, David Wayne Wilkins and wife Kathleen; daughter, Kathryn Jean Wilkins; as well as three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Eugene's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
