Graveside memorial services for Estelle Isabel Smith, 101, of Temple, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, April 22, at Bellwood Memorial Cemetery with Gary Baxley officiating.
Mrs. Smith passed away Saturday, April 8, at Arbor House in Temple.
Estelle Isabel Smith was born June 21, 1915 in Tyrone, New Mexico to Charles Grover Horn and Mabel Lee Horn. She graduated from Silver City High School in Silver City, New Mexico. On March 24, 1933, she married Joseph Wayne Smith in Deming, New Mexico and they moved to the Temple area in 1954. Mrs. Smith worked for the Olin E. Teague Veteran's Center in Temple for twenty-one years, retiring as one of the supervisor of the Veterans Canteen Service. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Order of the Eastern Star Vasti #32, and First United Methodist Church of Temple. Mrs. Smith enjoyed gardening and traveling the world.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Smith; a son, Wayne Smith; and her sister, Babette Balke.
She is survived by a daughter, Vera Greenfield and husband David; daughter-in-law, Judy Smith; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mrs. Smith memory be made to the American Civil Liberties Union, Planned Parenthood, or a charity of your choice.
Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple is in charge of arrangements.
