Elton Fischer

March 13, 1920 — February 3, 2011

Elton John Fischer, 90, of Temple, died Thursday, February 3, 2011 at a local hospital. Visitation will be 68 p.m., Wednesday, February 9 at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple. Funeral service will be 10 am, Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Temple with Pastors Dana Wilhelmsen and Bill Woolsey officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Bellwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Fischer was born March 13, 1920 to the late Erich and Bertha Schmidt Fischer in Paige, TX. He has lived in this area most of his life. He retired as a sales representative after more than 30 years with Lone Star Beer. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the destroyer USS Willard Keith. He was a member of VFW Post 1820 and American Legion Post 133. He was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as usherhead usher for more than 40 years.
Mr. Fischer is preceded in death by his first wife of 59 years, Leona Fischer, who died in 2000 brothers, Elwood Fischer, Curtis Fischer and Harvey Fischer son in law, Dick Weinkauf and daughter in law, Linda Fischer.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Conaway Fischer of Temple sons, Malvin Fischer and wife, Carolyn of Morgans Point Resort and Eugene Fischer of Pompano Beach, FL daughter, Jean Weinkauf of Clifton, TX stepchildren, Judi and Joel Smith of McKinney, TX, John and Carolyn Ellis of Salem, MO and Gary Ellis of Bay Cliff, TX brothers, Leroy Fischer of Westminster, CO, Willard Fischer of Spring, TX and Myron Fischer of Austin sisters, Norma Fischer of Austin and Allene Dixon of Gatesville 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, 9 great stepgrandchildren and 3 great great stepgrandchildren
Honoring him as pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Bill Woolsey, Jamie Fischer, Richard Woolsey, Eric Fischer, Mickey Woolsey, Jay Fischer, Elton Woolsey and Cindy Scott.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2109 West Avenue H, Temple, TX 76504.
