Services for Elroy Henry Hupe, 89, of Temple, will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, March 16, at the First United Methodist Church in Temple with Pastor Tom Robbins and Pastor Don Moore officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, March 17 at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, Texas. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Industry Methodist Church Cemetery in Industry, Texas.
Mr. Hupe died Monday, March 6, at his home in Temple.
Elroy Henry Hupe was born on October 29, 1927 to Otto Frederich Hupe and Ella Frieda Weiss Hupe in Shelby, Texas. He graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1945 and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and served as a radio technician. He served in the Air Force until 1948, and then began his civilian life in Brenham, where he met his soul mate, Helen May Mazan in 1950. He and Helen were married October 1, 1954 in Houston. In 1953, Elroy went to work for Rogers Oil Exploration which later evolved into Superior Oil Company and then Exxon Mobil. He retired from Exxon Mobil after 50 years of service and became a private consultant. Elroy enjoyed farming, raising cattle, traveling and collecting various logo baseball caps. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the local school board, water board and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eldon Hupe; and a sister, Esther Buls.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years; a son, Edward Hupe and friend Kelly Selk; two daughters, Carmel Jean Hupe, and Mary Kylberg and husband Roger; three grandchildren, Eric Kylberg, Kristen Gessaman and husband Matthew, and Lauren Kylberg; and his beloved cat, Butchie.
