Ellie Ward Wherry

Ellie Louise Ward Wherry, 83 of Ft. Worth, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.

Ellie was born on March 31, 1940, in Temple, Texas to Nellie Pirtle Moore and William Aubrey Moore. She met her late husband, David Hannah Ward, in Austin, Texas. They were married in 1958 and had five beautiful children together before David’s passing in 1978. She then continued to raise their children and support her family on her own. Ellie was married in 2015 to Bill Wherry, whom she met in Fort Worth, Texas. Ellie had an entrepreneurial spirit, opening restaurants in both Temple and Odessa. During the 1970s, she was a Tupperware sales representative. She also ran a convenience store, worked at two different newspapers, and created and sold items at craft shows. She moved to Odessa, Texas in 1981 and then to Fort Worth, Texas in 1998 where she has lived ever since. She was very socially active, volunteering at the benevolence center at her church and organizing and assisting with resident events at her retirement community. Ellie loved spending time with her family and friends and never failed to make the people around her smile. She was an incredible woman, and she will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Wherry; five children; twelve grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. Her children include Tammie VanMeter of McGregor, Tobie Farr of Temple, Todd Ward of Odessa, Tracie Miller of Weatherford, and Troy Ward of Midland. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and a friend to all.

A time of visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Friday, April 7, 2023, at the funeral home.
