Services for Ellen Joan Payne, 89 years and 5 months, of Temple will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 3, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with Brother Billy Koinm officiating. Burial will follow in Moody Cemetery.
Ms. Payne died Saturday, October 29, at a care facility in Waco, Texas.
Ellen Joan Payne was born May 5, 1927 on a farm near Moody, Texas to Homer Milton Payne and Ellen Rush Payne. She trusted Christ as her Savior when she was 11 years old at Willow Grove Baptist Church. Ms. Payne worked as a live-in caregiver to the disabled for many years. She was a member of Heights Baptist Church in Temple. The last five years, she lived in a senior community in Temple where she participated in various activities, made good friends, and enjoyed her independent-living there.
Ms. Payne was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Louis Payne, Jim Payne, Morgan Payne, and Rudolph Payne; and one sister, Louise Davis.
She is survived by a sister, Betty Huber and husband Kenneth of Waco; two sisters-in-law, Betty Payne of Abilene and Norma Fritz or Marshall; seventeen nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.
Pallbearers will be Leroy Payne, Robbie Payne, Allen Payne, Vance Payne, Kyle Payne and Weldon Payne.
Visitation will be from noon - 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 3 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials in Ellen Joan's name be made to either Meals on Wheels, 15 North 2nd Street, Temple 76502 or Heights Baptist Church, 1220 S. 49th Street, Temple 76504.
