Elizabeth Buchanan

Elizabeth "Liz" Ann (Schafer) Buchanan, born on August 7, 1939 in Plainfield, New Jersey, to the late Bessie V. Roberts (Schafer) and the late Leo Schafer, passed away at age 79 on January 12, 2019 in Temple, Texas.

On September 4, 1960, she married John William Buchanan. She graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and from Prairie View A&M University with a Master's degree in Family Counseling. She taught 4th grade at Thornton Elementary for 22 years before retiring to enjoy traveling with her husband, John, visiting multiple sites across the country. She was an active member of the Tri-City Gem and Mineral Society, member of Texas Classroom Teacher Association and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, John Buchanan; daughters, Nancy (Buchanan) Desbois and Betsy (Buchanan) Elderd; sister, Victoria Schafer; and grandchildren, Jessica Akin, Angela Akin, Isabel Akin, Raymond Elderd, Charlie Elderd, and Tony Elderd.

Friends and family are welcome to attend the graveside service on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 2 pm, officiated by Dr. Philip Shuler, at Bellwood Memorial Park, 8575 Airport Road, Temple, Texas, 76502.
