Eleanor Bruton, 71, lifelong resident of the Temple area passed away during the early morning hours of Thursday, August 13, 2015 following a valiant fight with renal cell carcinoma.
Mrs. Bruton is survived by her husband of 53 years, W.D. Bruton, daughter Dawnia Herrera of Johnson City, Texas, son, Gary Bruton and fiance WenD McCartt of Temple, granddaughters Brittany Killion of Buda, Texas, Meredith Killion of Austin, Texas and Colby Bruton of Troy, Texas. Surviving her as well are sisters Tommie Davis, Laura Baird and brother, David Cowan.
Mrs. Bruton was a full-time homemaker for many years, but also spent time employed with McGowan-Stephens Episcopal School as a teacher's aide and served as a substitute teacher and teacher's aide in the Troy Independent School District where she touched the lives and hearts of countless students. One of the things she enjoyed most was decorating wedding cakes for couples all over the central Texas area.
It is of no surprise to those who knew her best that she chose to rise to her Heavenly home accompanied by meteor showers exploding in grand fashion above her earthly home. She will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Scott & White Hospice, and especially to her care team Heather Bankhead, Dianna Flores, Nikki and Candis. These amazing individuals provided the family as well as Mrs. Bruton with professional and loving care during her final weeks of life.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Saturday morning, August 15, 2015 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple, Texas located at 500 W. Barton Avenue. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 Friday evening. Burial services will be held at Moffat Cemetery immediately following. The family will have a luncheon following both services at the Family Center located at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home and requests all food items be delivered directly there.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeffrey Thigpen, Gary Davis, Bobby Bruton, David Bruton, Clifton Bruton and Charles Bruton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Scott & White Hospice.
