Eileen Short McDainel Ray, 96, went to be with her beloved husband Mutt Ray and her eldest son Eddie on February 12, 2014. Short was born April 22, 1917 in Red Lodge Montana to parents Roy and Margret McDaninel. She had three sisters, Dottie, Margariet, Margie, Ester and a brother Kenneth. She graduated from Carbon County High School in Red Lodge Montana in 1936.
Shortly after the end of WWII she married W.B. Mutt Ray. Soon after the birth of their first son they moved to Temple TX where they remained until each of their passing. Three sons, Tom, Gary and Billy were then born and they still reside in Temple.
Short spent her life raising a family and working on the family farm. A hard working woman who took great pride in her family. With four sons life was never boring or slow. There never seemed to be enough time to sit back and watch the flowers grow. Getting four boys off to school and to sport practices on time. This would be more than enough to a day but with a lavish garden, cows, chickens and a horses to attend, the work day would extend well into the evenings. Never complaining, her hard work and kind heart set a high standard.
After the boys were grown the pace seemed to slow some but there was still more than enough to fill a day. Short had many friends and never spoke an ill word about anyone.
Short is survived by three sons, six grandchildren, seven great grand children and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She will be truly missed by her loving family and her many friends.
