A visitation for Edna Baker, 100, of Temple will be held from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. Private family services will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Baker died Monday, March 21, 2016, at a local nursing facility.
Edna Baker was born June 10, 1915 in Holland, Texas to Miles Edward Stone and Dora Sparks Stone. She married Milton Baker on March 25, 1939, and they spent their married life farming in the Temple-Little River-Academy area. She was a homemaker, a seamstress, and could make biscuits that were legendary. She also enjoyed many very long days doing chores on the family farm, including truck driving, tractor driving, hoeing weeds, and bookkeeping. She felt privileged that she never had to pick cotton.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were also very special and they all enjoyed spending time with their Grannie.
She enjoyed the last three years as a resident of Stoney Brook Assisted Living in Belton, where the staff became part of her extended family, and the last month at Cornerstone Gardens in Temple where she was given excellent care and attention.
Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband, Milton; a son, Mickey Baker; and daughter-in-law; Wendy Baker.
Survivors include her son, John (Bobbie) Baker; a daughter, Linda Rister; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
