alignjustifyEdith Edie Odell Parker Broughton, 84 of Temple, passed away Friday, September 19, 2008 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00am Monday, September 29th, 2008 at Bellwood Memorial Park with Dr. Philip L. Schuler officiating.
alignjustifyEdith Broughton was born August 4, 1924 to Charlie and Clara Bell Nowell Parker in Anson County, North Carolina. She married a soldier from Indiana and moved there in 1946. They had two children. In 1961, they moved to San Antonio to live with her mother and sister. She was a hard-working waitress who loved her work and could run circles around other waitresses that were half her age She kept all of her customers laughing.
alignjustifyAfter her mother passed away in 1967, she and her sister Bud moved to Austin to work for a Kettle restaurant. In 1979, the sisters moved to Temple. They worked for the Kettle restaurant in Temple, where Edith was the manager for 12 years. They were frequently presented awards for their efforts. They retired in 1991. The sisters became active in the St. Pauls United Methodist Church, taking part in many activities. They enjoyed the Hee-Haw Quilters quilting club and the D.M.A. Dont Mention Age Club where they played Chickenfoot. In 1996, their youngest brother, Chuck came to live with them. Edie and her sister were inseparable for 40 years until Bud passed away in 1991.
alignjustifyShe is preceded in death by her son, Richard Earl Gillespie, brothers; Clegg, Jack, and Chuck; and Sister Phronie Bud Baty.
alignjustifySurvivors include: daughter Patricia Peters of Temple, grandson Michael Peters and wife Lori, great granddaughter Brianna Peters of Virginia Beach, VA, sister-in-law Kate Parker and niece Deana Parker both of Goldsboro, North Carolina, and nephews; Clifford, Claney, and Brian Parker of Washington State.
