Dr. Lehr

John William Lehr, 95, of Temple peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2011. He was born July 3, 1916 to John Riley and Ona Belle Davis Lehr in Athens. He served in the Army 1941 till 1945. December 21, 1941, he married Jo Ann Wofford in Athens. After the Army, he attended Baylor University in Waco and Baylor Dental College in Dallas. He graduated from Dental School in December 1950 and set up practice is Shamrock, Texas. He moved his family to Temple in 1960 where he continued the practice of dentistry until his retirement in June 2001 at the age of 84.

John enjoyed fishing, exploring, and investigating why things work the way they do with his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. He enjoyed storytelling and sharing family history with all of us. He was a longtime member of Seventh Street MethodistOak Park Methodist Church, and loved all of his church family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann and youngest daughter, Mary Lynne Blacklock.

He is survived by his younger brother, Ed Carroll Lehr of Athens and two daughters, Linda LehrBethke, and Lisa LehrMillsap and her husband Doug of Temple. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Robert Bethke, Jessica BethkeRhodes, Cory Blacklock and his wife Emiko, Sean Blacklock and his wife Jessie, Amy BlacklockHess and her husband Griffin, Emily Blacklock, Brenda Buckley, and Ericka Argomaniz. His nine greatgrandchildren, Devante and Juliana Rhodes, Josh, Justin and Jessica Buckley, Lucia, Melissa, Jake and Katie Argomaniz. His great, greatgranddaughter, Lyla Buckley.

Visitation will be 6:008:00 P.M. at HarperTalasek Funeral Home on Friday, October 28, 2011. A Graveside Service will be held at Bellwood Memorial park at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at the Central Pavillion.

Donations made in his memory to Scott White Healthcare Division of Investigative Pathology, Dr. Alexzander Asea, 1901 South 1st Street, Building 205 Room 1R33 or the American Heart Association would be greatly appreciated by the family.
