Alvin was born and raised on a farm outside Buckholts, TX, graduated in 1936 from the Texas Chiropractic College in Houston, TX and became licensed to practice chiropractic in California, Kansas and Texas. He practiced as a chiropractor in Coleman, TX until 1960 when he moved to Temple, TX to join his brother Walter in the Fischer Chiropractic Clinic at 315 N. Third St. until he retired in 1976. They had one son, Michael C. Fischer, an electronics engineer. After the death of his wife of 63 years, he moved from Temple, TX to Palo Alto, CA to be near his son Michael.

Alvin was very active in the First Christian churches in Coleman and Temple where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder and chairman of the board of elders, sang in the chancel choir, and volunteered for many duties.
