On Dec. 24, 2011 Doyle Edmond Chilcoat, at the age of 88, slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus. He was a native Okie, and proud of it, but called Temple his home for forty six years. He was a tenderhearted, kind, and generous man. At the time of his death he was still deeply in love with his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Lackey Chilcoat. They lived together in an assisted living facility in Houston for the last three years, close to family. Doyle was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his children, Kevin and wife, Brenda Hicks Chilcoat, and Monica Chilcoat Meredith and husband, John Meredith grandchildren, Dwight Chilcoat, Erin Chilcoat Maxey and husband, Jason Maxey, Carrie Chilcoat Gould and husband, Steven Gould, Matthew Meredith and wife, Shannon Brazeal Meredith, and Deanna Meredith and five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Doyle was a faithful Christian and long time member of the Northside Church of Christ In Temple. He was a deacon there for many years. Doyle served his country in the U.S. Army for 20 years. He saw combat in WWII and the Korean War. Upon retiring from the military, Doyle worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 22 years and retired in 1987. A memorial service to honor Doyle Chilcoat will be held at the Northside Church of Christ on Saturday, December 31, at 1:00 pm.
