Graveside services for Doris F. Mitchell Scogin, 89, of Temple will be held 10 AM Wednesday, June 6, at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple. A time of visitation will be 5 to 7 PM Tuesday, June 5 at Harper-Talasek Funeral home of Temple.
Doris Scogin passed from this life on Friday, June 1, while surrounded by her beloved family. She was born on December 14, 1928 in Lott, TX to Alton and Oma Lee Mitchell.
Doris was a life-long Central Texan who lived most of her life in Temple. She was a woman of faith who followed her Lord with all her heart. She was a long-time member of Heights Baptist Church of Temple. Doris was a long time member of American Legion Post 133 of Temple. She enjoyed horseback riding. Doris and her late husband, William were members of Temple Longhorn Riding Club. Some might not have known but in her younger days she was a great baseball player who loved to play. She liked to go fishing with friends and family whenever she could. She loved to tend to her garden and watch her plants and flowers grow. She was especially proud of her roses. She was a homemaker at heart. Mrs. Scogin was a great cook and always prepared something special for any occasion. She taught her children the meaning of responsibility with always having chores for them to complete. Doris was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Scogin; her parents; a brother, Alton Mitchell Jr.; and a sister, Dorothy Sullivan.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her daughter, Phyllis Canipe of Waco; sons, James Scogin and his wife, Sindy of Seguin, Malon Scogin and wife, Vicky of Beaumont; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
