Donald Norman Dysart, 89, of Temple, Texas peacefully passed from this life at his home in the presence of his family on March 16, 2012 to join his Lord and Savior and loved ones who have gone before him. Don was born January 13, 1923 in Mt. Silinda, Southern Rhodesia now Zimbabwe, South Africa to John Paden and Matilda Thorson Dysart, dedicated Missionaries of the Congregational Church.
Don was a graduate of The State University of Iowa College of Medicine and served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps during WWII. He completed a radiology residency at Scott White Clinic and Hospital and remained on staff until his retirement in 1988. Don also served on staff at Santa Fe Memorial Hospital in Temple, the Olin E. Teague Veterans Center in Temple, and St. EdwardRischar Memorial Hospital in Cameron. He was an Associate Professor in Radiology at Texas AM University, College of Medicine after Scott Whites association with that school. In 1987 he was a recipient of The Gold Medical Award of the Texas Radiological Society, this organizations highest honor, a meritorious award to honor dedicated radiologists who have distinguished themselves by their services to radiology and radiologists of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Patricia Ann Roberts Dysart. He is survived by three daughters: Ann Dysart Edmondson with husband Doug of Morgans Point, Sandra Dysart Butts with husband Mike of Temple, TX, Lucy Dysart McClean of Midlothian , TXone son John Andrew Andy Dysart with wife Nancy of Cypress, TX ten grandchildren: Aaron Edmondson, Courtney Edmondson with wife Hillary, Jennifer Butts Bass with husband Shawn, Kristen Butts Griffith with husband Lee, Carolyn Butts, Mattie McClean, Mindy McClean, Ben Dysart, Kate Dysart, and Matt Dysart six greatgrandchildren one niece Trudy Boyd of San Francisco, CA and numerous cousins.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Daniel Smith and his staff for their compassionate medical care over the years, and Dr. Duc Vu, Dr. Michael Moffit, Katrina Abernathy and Val Richards with Scott White Hospice for their support and tender care during his last days.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. at HarperTalasek Funeral Home, Temple.
Services will be Monday, March 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Presbyterian Church, Temple with Thom Lamb Thomas Allen officiating.
