Della Lydia Hejl Mares

Della Lydia Hejl Mares of Oscar went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, July 9, 2009. Services for Della Mares will be Monday, 11:00 a.m., July 13, 2009 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. Visitation will be Sunday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Della was born July 18, 1915 in Seaton to Frank and Emilie Lesikar Hejl. She went to school in Seaton through the 10th grade and she went to Temple High School where she graduated . She attended Temple College and earned a teaching degree in 1934. She worked in Dallas as a nanny taking care of two children in 1936. She was a teacher at Seaton Elementary School from 1937-1938. She married Henry Mares on November 23, 1938. She worked many years along side her husband on the family farm.

In her later years she worked 8 years for Heywood Mfg. Co. in Temple. She retired in 1972.

She was a member of Seaton Brethren Church and a member of the Seaton Brethren Christian Sisters.

Della was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Margaret Rose Mares, her husband, Henry, four sisters and three brothers.

She is survived by three sons, Henry Mares, Jr. of Hurst, Daniel Mares of Temple and Edward Mares of Oscar; one sister, Dorothy Hogan of Nolanville; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.

Della was a member of SPJST Lodge 47 in Seaton and also a member of Woodman Lodge 16 in Temple..
